My Story

Rufai Bishi speaking at an event

I am Nigerian Canadian, shaped by Lagos and Canada, and the space in between.

I was born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria. I grew up in Ikoyi and was raised by parents who were civil servants. They valued education, discipline, and doing the right thing even when no one was watching.

From an early age, I was fascinated by how things worked. That curiosity led me through electronics projects in Oshodi Market, a career in chartered accounting, an MBA in Business Analytics, and eventually to Canada in 2018.

I am a father of three children — two girls and a boy. That role shapes how I see the world more than any title ever has.

Operating Principles

  • 1Patience over speed — progress often looks slower from the outside than it feels on the inside
  • 2Curiosity as a compass — always asking how systems shape lives
  • 3Building for the long view — creating stability, options, and examples worth passing on
  • 4Comfort with incompleteness — some things are finished, many are still becoming
